The sender is a Thermistor, changing resistance with temperature. Our experience was the sender measured over 2000 when it failed (both Coolant and Transmission temp gauges used the same sender and both failed in 2014). Reading should be around 280 ohms cold and decreases to 20 ohms hot. The match to the gauge is through the curve of ohm changed to temp. and this Beede High Range (100-280F/140-320F degrees) match is not on a standard curve. Impossible to find, so we are stocking it!
