Although Hewlett-Packard will not support Microsoft XP or Microsoft .NET Server 2003 on Discontinued Server Products like the LH series Netservers, users are using and have successfully installed 2003. This document provides an update on what steps need to be taken to allow the servers to be supported with Microsoft Windows .NET Server 2003.
Make sure that you download and install 'all' of the upgrades for firmware available. They are all there on the HP web site. I don't know why they say they don't support the OS but do have the firmware upgrades and software for Raid management available.DO NOT USE the NetServer Navigator disk to try and install 2003. Perform a clean installation from the Windows disk only. You will receive the following message when you have used in the past or have currently used the Navigator Install, " 4M Raid Controller driver is not compatable". This error happens because the server was installed using the "automated" install of Windows NT included in the NetServer Navigator CD. The automated install of OS the Navigator CD creates, will install drivers for all compatible HP controllers, including the NetRAID 4M, even if those controllers aren't present in the system. Since the Navigator has now left a signature for Windows about this hardware, the Windows Install attempts to load compatible drivers to upgrade Windows. Since no Windows 2000 or 2003 drivers are present the error message is generated.
Perform a clean installation of Windows 2000 Server using the enclosed and/or latest drivers from HP.
Install Microsoft .NET Server 2003 as an upgrade to your new 2000 server installation. This procedure is know to work the best because all the known drives and DLL support is installed. Some items are not available on the 2003 installation because HP did not provide them as supported to Microsoft, so they are no longer included.
Download and install the RAID Admin software for 2003 from HP
